Bas Jan Ader was a Dutch conceptual artist who was involved in film, photography, and the performing arts. Some of his most notable work include the series, the ‘Fall’, or his short film, ‘I’m too sad to tell you’, both of which expresses his own frailty and vulnerability, themes which are common in his other works. In his work, Ader often challenges emotions which are difficult to articulate accompanied by a simplistic manner of representation.
Our chair for Bas Jan Ader focuses and reflects on these qualities of the artist. The orthogonal design and the design of critical joints emphasizes the basic function of a chair, where the spirit of the artist is represented in the process of making and crafting.
